MCDB 153 (Modified) Medium

MCDB media was designed for the low-protein or serum-free growth of specific cell types using hormones, growth factors, trace elements or low levels of dialyzed fetal bovine serum protein. Each MCDB medium was formulated to provide a defined and optimally balanced nutritional environment that selectively promoted growth of a specific cell type. Biological Industries’MCDB Modified 153 supports general cell culture and the growth of normal human keratinocytes if supplemented with EGF, Insulin, Hydrocortisone, Ethanolamine, and Phosphoethanolamine. The selection of a nutrient medium is strongly influenced by 1] type of cell, 2] type of culture [monolayer, suspension, clonal] and 3] degree of chemical definition necessary.
