GMEM Medium

Glasgow Modified Essential Medium (GMEM) was developed by Ian MacPherson and Michael Stoker as a modification of Eagle’s medium. The medium was developed by modifying Eagle′s BME by adding 10% tryptose phosphate and twice the normal concentration of amino acids and vitamins.

The medium is not only utilized to promote the growth of Baby Hamster Kidney cells (BHK-21) but also to study the genetic factors impacting cell competence. GMEM was uniquely designed and formulated quantitatively and qualitatively to provide a defined and optimally balanced cell culture milieu that selectively promotes the growth of specific cell types.
