Product Overview:

RPMI Medium 1640 has been specifically developed for the long-term culture of blood cells, the culture of normal and abnormal human leukocytes (e.g. neoplastic WBC's) and is now used as a general medium (with serum) for hybridoma cultures. Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI) 1640 Medium has also been found suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas. Biological Industries offers a variety of RPMI 1640 Medium modifications for various cell culture applications.

This RPMI is modified as follows:

With
  • HEPES
  • Glucose
  • L-Glutamine
  • Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Phenol Red

The complete formulation is available.

HEPES buffer is designed for use in open vessels incubated under atmospheric conditions. HEPES (N’-2 Hydroxyethylpiperazine-N’-2 ethanesulphonic acid) behaves as a zwitterion. If you have a sensitive cell culture system, it is recommended to use HEPES-buffered media. Such nutrient solutions are prepared in accordance with the original formulas and include sodium bicarbonate. The sodium chloride concentration of HEPES buffered medium is usually reduced in order to maintain the same Osmolality of the original medium formulations. HEPES increases the buffer capacity and stabilizes the pH within the range of 7.2 to 7.6. This allows the media to better resist fluctuations of the pH resulting from changes in cellular metabolism especially in rapidly growing cultures with a tendency to acidify.
