Endothelial Cells

Endothelial cells (EC) form the inner lining of blood vessels, termed Endothelium. They provide a selective permeability barrier and an anticoagulant barrier between the vessel wall and blood. Their unique location at the interface between the blood and surrounding tissue allows קndothelial cells to detect local changes and blood-borne signals. Endothelial cells react by producing a wide range of vasoactive substances that regulate vascular tone, cellular adhesion, thromboresistance, smooth muscle cell proliferation, and vessel wall inflammation. Additionally, endothelial cells are pivotal in cancer research, angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. Consequently, Endothelial cells have become a key element in research, tissue engineering and cell therapy.
