McCoy's 5A Medium

Originally in 1959, McCoy and his colleagues determined the amino acid requirements for the in vitro cultivation of Novikoff Hepatoma Cells. This medium, McCoy's 5A Modified Medium was originally based on Basal Medium (Eagle) but with the addition of an amino acid and vitamin mixture from Medium 199. McCoy’s 5A has been shown to support the growth of primary cultures derived from adrenal glands, bone marrow (normal), gingiva, lung, mouse kidney, omentum, skin, spleen and other tissues. It is a general purpose medium for primary and established cell lines.
